Another recent study used DNA sequences collected from Asian peoples and Native Americans and was published in the June 2005 issue of the journal PLoS (Public Library of Science) Biology. It suggested that just a few dozen people originally populated North America and crossed a land bridge from Asia. Jody Hey, a professor of genetics at Rutgers University concluded, “The estimated effective size of the founding population for the New World is about 70 individuals.”

A more recent study by the University of Michigan which was published in the specialist journal PloS Genetics confirms a, “relatively recent” migration “that crossed a lost land link from modern Siberia to Alaska”, “suggesting that all Native Americans were descended from a single group, not various ones as the rival theory holds.” (“Gene study suggests Native Americans came from Siberia”, AFP, November 26, 2007)

The credibility of DNA testing is now widely accepted in the Court of Law and may be used as evidence to convict or exonerate individuals in criminal law. In the study of anthropology it can be used to unquestionably determine the genealogy of any person. Simon Southerton (Ph. D. Molecular Biology), speaking on the origin of Native American DNA, states:

“If Y chromosomes all come from Asia, and mitochondrial genomes all come from Asia, then the only explanation for where all the other chromosomes come from is Asia. That is a very scientifically valid explanation. It's the only explanation. In excess of 150 tribes have been tested now and they've been either scattered all over North and Central and South America, even to Greenland. And from that survey in excess of five and a half thousand individuals have been involved and been tested. From those five and a half thousand, 99.4% of Native Americans have a mitochondrial DNA lineage that originated in Asia. There can be no question. 99.4%. The other 0.6% have either a European or an African mitochondrial lineage. A very tiny minority of African and European lineages that they do find came after Columbus.” (DNA vs. The Book of Mormon, 2003.)

More specific to the Mayans and the Aztecs he stated,

“Several tribes in Mesoamerica (which included Aztecs and Mayans) had been tested and all but a couple of individuals out of about 500 had mitochondrial DNA of Asian origin. The small fraction of Native American lineages that were not from Asia appeared to originate in Europe, most likely Spain.” (www.exmormon.org/whylft125.htm)

Another scientific report suggests a central location from where man spread across the face of the earth. In the December 4, 1995, issue of U.S. News & World Report, an article entitled, “The Genetic Eve Gets a Genetic Adam”, stated,

“Each study dates Adam differently. One says he appeared roughly 188,000 years ago. The other estimates he lived up to 49,000 years ago. But both buck the notion that modern humans emerged in disparate spots across continents. 'We are finding that humans have very, very shallow genetic roots which go back very recently to ONE ANCESTOR,' says the University of Arizona's Michael Hammer, author of one of the studies. 'THAT INDICATES THAT THERE WAS AN ORIGIN IN A SPECIFIC LOCATION ON THE GLOBE AND THEN IT SPREAD OUT FROM THERE'” (U.S. News & World Report, Dec. 4, 1995, emphasis added).

This sounds exactly like the Bible's record where we are told, the Lord “hath made of one blood all nations of men” (Acts 17:26), and from Babel, He “scattered them abroad … upon the face of all the earth” (Genesis 11:8).

Since the time of these studies, the “very shallow genetic roots” have become even shallower than they first predicted. It has been recognized that the dates (188,000 years and 49,000 years ago) presented in these previous studies used faulty reasoning and erroneous assumptions to determine how far back in time the “Genetic Eve” lived.

The dates presented in these studies were determined by calculating the mutation rate of Mitochondrial DNA. However, the mutation rate was calculated using the faulty assumption that monkeys and man had a common ancestor 5 million years ago. Nevertheless, mutation rates can now be determined directly by comparing the Mitochondrial DNA of many mother-child pairs. Using this newer and more accurate rate (20 times faster) it is now understood that the Genetic Eve would have lived only about 6,000 years ago.

“…researchers have [previously] calculated that 'mitochondrial Eve'—the woman whose mtDNA was ancestral to that in all living people—lived 100,000 to 200,000 years ago in Africa. Using the new clock, she would be a mere 6000 years old.” (Ann Gibbons, “Calibrating the Mitochondrial Clock,” Science, Vol. 279, 2 January 1998, p. 29)

Another report states,

“such a high mutation rate would indicate that Eve lived about 6500 years ago—a figure clearly incompatible with current theories on human origins.” (Laurence Loewe and Siegfried Scherer, “Mitochondrial Eve: The Plot Thickens,” Trends in Ecology & Evolution, Vol. 12, 11 November 1997, p. 422)

And again,

“Using our empirical rate to calibrate the mtDNA molecular clock would result in an average age of the mtDNA MRCA [most recent common ancestor] of only ~6,500 y.a. [years ago], clearly incompatible with the known age of modern humans.”  (Thomas J. Parsons et al., “A High Observed Substitution Rate in the Human Mitochondrial DNA Control Region,” Nature Genetics, Vol. 15 April 1997, p. 365).

Evolutionists, according to “current theories on human origins”, believe that “modern humans” arose on the scene about a million years ago, and are therefore baffled to see that the “Genetic Eve” is reported to be so young. However, to any individual who has studied Biblical chronology, 6000 years corresponds amazingly well with the age of the Earth and the genealogy of mankind going back to Adam and Eve.

Once again, it is proven how established scientific fact and the Bible are in complete harmony with one another.
