The following letter was written by brother Clinton Esser in response to the rapid decline we have been taking towards Sodom since the 80's, and to the recent campaign that is set to undermine the fundamental institution of marriage. It would do us well to review our current situation in this regard if perhaps our souls may be stirred afresh and realize how late in the hour we really are. The enemy would rather have us recline and slumber away but the Bible tells us, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith..." (1 Peter 5:8-9).

Dear Mr. Toews:

I am an American living in Canada as a Landed Immigrant with my Manitoba bride. Life seemed to be so much simpler in 1990 for both countries. Now, whether it is in the U.S. or Canada, we are altogether contending with a “brave new world” full of rhetoric like “minority rights” and the “values of Canadians” and the alleged mandate of the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms to protect and exalt homosexuality right up to perverting the fundamental institution of marriage in order to do it. And in the name of all these things the specter of “gay marriage” (an oxymoron in every sense of the phrase) is threatening the very fabric of our society as well as the posterity of this great nation. All in the name of “minority rights”!

Virtually every front page, whether it is the newspapers, on the internet, or over the radio it is focusing on this issue. HOW CAN SUCH A THING BE HAPPENING IN OUR NATIONS? Is there no shame in exalting and institutionalizing such a perversion of matrimonial union; no political or judicial will against deviant sexual behavior that goes against nature, against design and conscience; that used to have criminal consequences in many places; that threatens the health of the public and the lifespan of the individual who engages in such reprobate practices; that is known for preying upon the young and vulnerable (pedophilia); that offends just about every religious standard of morality?

Of course, hind sight is 20/20. I believe the way for such precedence was paved by the social revolution of the '50's and 60's whose credo was, “if it feels good do it” and “free love”; a generation which showed a brazen disregard for authority and the rule of law. We saw how this had a leavening effect upon the whole of society as it was no longer taboo to engage in sexual relations before marriage, “shack up together” and live common law, get a divorce if it feels right and try someone new. Now we have 12 and 13 year olds pregnant at the high schools and not a few!

By the 1980's there was an organized political and social effort by homosexual groups to desensitize the public regarding this “alternative” lifestyle. Apparently our school systems have become fertile ground for this social gospel of “tolerance”. The schools were once an extension of parental authority and values, and now they are the prime purveyor of undermining that sacrosanct authority and making sure that these children know their “rights.” In the name of “tolerance” they now actively teach our children that homosexuality is simply an “alternative lifestyle”, thus becoming accomplices to such scandalous debauchery! What was bad is now good; what was good is now bad.

Marriage will cease to have any practical force of meaning if such legislation passes; as marriage goes, so the family; as the family, so society; as society, so the nation. With the passing of such laws, the unraveling or our social fabric will accelerate and we will be the worse for it; this certainly doesn't take a sociologist or clergyman to figure out. Heterosexuals procreate, homosexuals recruit. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that polygamy and incest laws will be challenged in short order and this will also be a natural step in the fulfillment of the homosexual agenda. Sadly enough, historical precedent indicates they will not stop there.

One but has to look back at the book of Genesis to see how violent and reprobate Sodom had become before God destroyed those cities with fire and brimstone from Heaven. The record says, “But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly” (Genesis 13:13). It must have been bad when Abram proclaimed to the king of Sodom after delivering them from their enemies in his effort to free Lot, “. . . I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich” (Genesis 14:23)!

It is no wonder then, when the two messengers came to warn Lot and his family to flee the wrath to come, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous” (Genesis 18:20) that they were threatened with homosexual rape, publicly, to be witnessed by both the “. . .old and young, all the people from every quarter. . .” of Sodom (see Genesis 19:4,5)!

In the aftermath of destruction, we see the corrupting influence that Sodom had on Lot's two daughters when they thought it wise to make their father drunk on wine and each took turns lying with him, giving birth to the nations of Moab and Ammon (Genesis 19:30-38).

This is the endgame of the unfettered homosexual agenda: the total breakdown of society as we know it and have been blessed by these many centuries! Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, being exposed to the homosexual subculture, growing up with close associations who were actively homosexual, and these part of a growing militancy that would make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck with their anarchical visions has convinced me that we are in for big trouble and I don't think too many see it coming. All I see is the double-speak and grandstanding by weak-kneed and soft-bellied politicians who boldly proclaim that we as a nation are becoming more enlightened in so doing; that our Constitution is “evolving” toward a higher plane of societal enlightenment! Mr. Toews, we are rapidly devolving as history gives witness and will give witness again.

Certainly we must be drawing close to the fulfillment of the promise that the Lord Jesus Christ declared, “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” (Luke 17:28-30). It would appear that we could very well be that generation the way we are headed! But I suppose even the Bible will now be considered hate literature when looking at some of the recent laws passed. How many have already tried to pass this Book of books off as myth and legend?

It doesn't look promising with the way the Liberals, Bloc, and the NDP are running their caucuses on this vote. They wrap themselves in the flag of democracy and “tolerance”, yet use an iron fist while ruling over their own members. Mr. Martin says that his mandate is to defend the rights of the minority. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that in a democracy, the majority ruled the day? There is possibly the sound of battle within the rank and file of the Conservative Party on this issue according to news reports last week but Mr. Harper apparently has made it clear that the Conservative vote will be a free vote, the only free vote in Parliament.

Never have I felt so alienated from society in all my life. We can't even walk through the shopping malls anymore without sex and nakedness being forced on my young family – by the merchants! Prime time television is a veritable mine field. Never have I been so aware of both the inevitable social consequences, even the begging of Divine judgment upon our nations as they have lost what Light they once claimed to possess. I mourn for my children and the reprobate government and society that my children will inherit if we continue down this road!

We petition you Mr. Toews, to fight this scourge with all zeal. Nothing less than a national referendum should be held on such a fundamental question and, if that does not happen, my prayer is that Mr. Harper will have the courage and wherewithal to invoke the Notwithstanding clause if we should be blessed enough to see this man take the office of Prime Minister.

Our prayers are with you as they are for ALL our leaders. We pray for strength and courage in some, and for conviction in others, but I purpose to pray that the Lord will grant us reprieve from what now seems to be all but inevitable.
